We’re back at it after the summer break which feels like a long gone memory already and what a start! We kicked off in Southend on 13th September, where B&D Aquatics Club swimmers competed in the penultimate leg of the Essex Mini League. Coach Ian was delighted to share that this round places the team second. We’re looking forward to the last event on 1st November.

Then came the B&D Aquatics Club Championships on 20th September. Now we are running as an independent club, this was a great test of being able to run an event within our club. It was brilliant to see new and old volunteers (every single person made the difference) and test out the technology poolside. A great turn out from swimmers and parents at our home training pool, Becontree Leisure Centre.

Hot of the heels of the Club Championships (literally the next day), we’ve been watching and cheering on the GB Para Swimmers at the World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore (21-27 September). On the penultimate day of competition, Brock Whiston delivered a memorable swim in the Women’s SM8 200M Individual Medley, powering to Gold and helping Great Britain land 5th in the overall rankings by the end of the competition.

Her win added to a string of successes: Brock had already earned Silver in the S8 400M Freestyle, Bronze in the S8 100M Butterfly earlier in the meet and a fourth medal gaining a Silver in the SB8 100M Breaststroke on the final day.

In coverage from Aquatics GB, Brock commented: “I felt like coming into it I had a lot of pressure on myself, no one else put the pressure on me but after winning Gold at the Paris Olympics, I just wanted to come here and prove that it wasn’t just a one-off and that I deserve to be on the podium. I can’t stop smiling, I’m super happy!”
