Weekend Round-Up: Development Success and Regional Open Water Titles
It was another busy and successful weekend for the club, with swimmers competing across two very different events and continuing to demonstrate the depth of talent throughout every squad.
Dunmow Summer Splash
Saturday saw more than 60 swimmers travel to the Dunmow Summer Splash, where athletes from across the club enjoyed an excellent development competition.
The meet provided plenty of opportunities for swimmers to race multiple events in quick succession, helping to build race experience, confidence and resilience. From our Future Stars, Emerald, Bronze, Silver and Sapphire squads through to our performance swimmers, there were encouraging performances across the board.
The coaching team were delighted to see significant progress from every squad, with many swimmers producing fast racing and showing the improvements made through consistent training. With Club Championships later this month, the meet provided the perfect opportunity to sharpen racing skills and build confidence.
SE London Regional Open Water Championships
On Sunday, more than 20 swimmers took on the challenge of the SE London Regional Open Water Championships.
For many, it was their first experience of open water racing, making the performances even more impressive. Swimmers adapted brilliantly to the unique demands of open water competition, with the club returning home with multiple regional titles and national qualification performances.

A Coach’s Perspective
For Coach Muadh, Sunday’s event brought back memories of a lifetime spent swimming in open water.
Having first ventured beyond the pool at the age of 14, open water has remained a huge part of his sporting journey, from memorable swims in Kenya between Tudor Watersports and the historic Fort Jesus in Mombasa, to training and racing in the waters off the Jumeirah Beach Hotel in Dubai.
“Swimming in the pool is where many of us begin, but the day I started swimming in open water, everything changed. It gives you a different feeling and builds confidence in a way that the pool can’t. Every swim is different. You learn to deal with currents, waves and changing conditions, and you become stronger because of it.
One of the things I love most is being surrounded by nature. You never know what you’ll see beneath you, and every swim becomes an adventure. Open water challenges you physically, mentally and emotionally, while also teaching important racing skills like drafting and staying calm when you’re surrounded by other swimmers.
I believe these experiences help our young swimmers far beyond competition. They gain confidence in open water, develop resilience and become more comfortable swimming when they’re on holiday with their families or exploring lakes and the sea safely.
Watching our swimmers at the SE London Regional Championships, especially those competing in open water for the very first time, brought back so many memories for me. I genuinely felt like I was the one racing again. Seeing their determination, courage and excitement reminded me why I fell in love with open water all those years ago, and I couldn’t be prouder of what they achieved.”
Congratulations to every swimmer who represented the club over the weekend. Whether competing at Dunmow Summer Splash or taking on the challenge of open water for the first time, every performance reflected the hard work and commitment shown in training.
Thank you to our coaching team, officials, volunteers and parents for making another successful weekend possible. We look forward to carrying this momentum into the rest of the season at the Essex Mini League, Club Championships, Nationals and Commonwealth Games.
