We’re incredibly proud to announce Vlad and Aida as the newly appointed Club Captains of Barking & Dagenham Aquatics Club for 2026!
At 18, both swimmers embody everything you’d expect from high-level performers in our top squad: consistency, resilience, leadership and an unwavering commitment to their squad. They don’t just lead by title — they lead every single session.
Vlad – Motivated. Relentless. A Machine.
Over the past four years, Vlad has shown what true commitment looks like. Initially training non-competitively, his dedication took a turn to Vlad stepping onto the blocks and now racing at a regional level following in the footsteps of those that came before him at the club. He shows relentless consistency and intent, turning up to practically every session. From warming up independently to becoming an effective leader within our top squad, Vlad has earned the respect of swimmers and coaches alike.
He constantly proves what’s possible when you fully commit to the process. He’s the swimmer everyone points to as an example of how good you can be if you put your mind to it. Tireless, focused and driven, Vlad motivates those around him simply by doing the work — day in, day out. A natural leader, he always leads his lane and sets the standard for effort, discipline and mindset.
Aida – Skill, Strength and Resilience
Aida is a technically outstanding swimmer and a proven regional-level performer. She is a leader among the girls in our top squad, with swimmers of all ages looking up to her — not just for her ability in the water, but for her character.
After suffering what could have been a career-ending injury, Aida showed remarkable resilience, bouncing back stronger than ever. She has become a trusted shoulder to lean on for swimmers across the club, offering support, encouragement and calm leadership — all while navigating her GCSEs and A-levels.
Role Models for the Whole Club
Vlad and Aida consistently lead their lanes, persist through challenges and set the tone for excellence. They are strong mentors, natural leaders and true role models — not just for the top squad, but for the entire club.
