Paralympic medallist Brock Whiston Shines in Singapore — Club Member Delivers Stellar Performance at World Para Swimming Championships

Barking & Dagenham Aquatics Club is proud to celebrate the outstanding achievements of our member, Brock Whiston, at the 2025 World Para Swimming Championships in Singapore (21–27 September). Her performances not only brought glory to Team Great Britain, but also reflected the talent, grit, and dedication instilled in her during her formative years at the club.

A Golden Night to Remember

On the penultimate day of competition, Brock delivered a memorable swim in the Women’s SM8 200M Individual Medley, powering to Gold and helping Great Britain land 5th in the overall rankings by the end of the competition.

Her win added to a string of successes: Brock had already earned Silver in the S8 400M Freestyle, Bronze in the S8 100M Butterfly earlier in the meet and a fourth medal gaining a Silver in the SB8 100M Breaststroke on the final day.

In coverage from Aquatics GB, Brock commented: “I felt like coming into it I had a lot of pressure on myself, no one else put the pressure on me but after winning Gold at the Paris Paralympics, I just wanted to come here and prove that it wasn’t just a one-off and that I deserve to be on the podium. I can’t stop smiling, I’m super happy!”

From Our Club to the World Stage

Brock’s journey from the lanes at Barking & Dagenham Aquatics Club to world championship glory is a story that inspires all members, especially our younger swimmers. She is a prime example of what dedication, supportive coaching, and hard work can achieve.

During her time with the club, Brock not only honed her technique and strength but also developed a never-give-up mindset that has served her in the most competitive international arenas. Her achievements in Singapore underscore the importance of grassroots support, and the role local clubs play in nurturing future champions.

Brock trains locally alongside the club swimmers at Becontree Heath Leisure Centre, coached by Stewart Nicklin.

Club Reaction & Congratulations

“We could not be prouder of Brock,” said Dan McEwan, Head Coach, Barking & Dagenham Aquatics. “Watching her compete on the world stage, setting a world record and winning gold, is a moment of immense pride for everyone who has been part of her journey — coaches, teammates, and club members alike.”

“We hope her success in Singapore will inspire our current swimmers to dream big,” continued Dan. “If Brock can go from our local pool to a world champion, then every swimmer here has potential for greatness.”

What’s Next

As Brock returns home, the club looks forward to welcoming her back — to celebrate her success, to hear from her experiences, and to learn from them. We are also excited about what comes next in her career, and we stand ready to support her future endeavours, whether in para competition or beyond.
